York Water Acquires Southern York County and Franklin County Systems

THE YORK WATER COMPANY ACQUIRES SYC WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT AND COLLECTION SYSTEMS IN YORK COUNTY – CLOSES ON WATER SYSTEM IN FRANKLIN COUNTY

JT Hand, President & CEO of The York Water Company (NASDAQ: YORW), announced that today, Thursday, December 1, 2022, York Water completed the acquisition of the SYC wastewater treatment plant and collection systems, which serves portions of Shrewsbury and Springfield Townships, York County. This acquisition adds approximately 31 commercial and industrial wastewater customers to the Company’s growing wastewater portfolio.

President Hand stated, “York Water is excited to expand our wastewater footprint in southern York County and to bring additional sewer capacity to the I-83 corridor to support businesses and residents in need of sewer alternatives. The current commercial and industrial customers are already York Water water customers, and now they will benefit from our reliable wastewater services.”

Scott Weir, owner of SYC WWTP, L.P, acknowledged the excitement surrounding this acquisition. “During the early 1980’s, four longtime York County businesspeople decided to develop the 150-acre parcel in Southern York County, previously known as the Exit 2 business park. I recall my father’s pride in building their own wastewater treatment plant when Springfield and Shrewsbury townships declined to provide service. I could not imagine that I would own and operate this same treatment plant for 13 years. While I shared my father’s pride, when the opportunity to sell it to The York Water Company came up, it was a natural transition for myself and the rest of my family.”

Concurrent with and adjacent to this acquisition, York Water also recently acquired the Albright Mobile Home Estates water distribution and wastewater collection systems in Springfield Township, York County, adding approximately 60 residential water and wastewater customers. Rounding out the Company’s recent acquisition activity, York Water closed last week on the acquisition of the Scott Water Company in Greene Township, Franklin County, adding approximately 25 water customers adjacent to its also recently acquired Letterkenny Depot area system.

York Water provides water and wastewater services in 54 municipalities in York, Franklin, and Adams counties.
