PENNSYLVANIA’S LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLD WATER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHWAP) REOPENED TO HELP WITH WATER AND WASTEWATER BILLS

The Shapiro Administration announced on July 6, 2023, that they are re-opening the Low-income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) to help Pennsylvanians with their water and wastewater bills. LIHWAP reopened today, Monday, July 10, 2023.

York Water customers, if income eligible, may receive one grant for water and one grant for wastewater, based on the amount of arrearage, up to $2,500 each. If a customer has received a water or wastewater grant since January 4, 2022, they are not eligible for an additional grant of that same type.

Applications can be submitted online at dhs.pa.gov/COMPASS. Customers can also apply for assistance over the phone by calling LIHWAP Customer Service at 1-877-395-8930. Applications can also be printed and mailed to customers’ local County Assistance Office. Once a customer has applied, they will need to contact York Water Customer Service at 717-845-3601 or customer.service@yorkwater.com to notify York Water and have their account properly notated.

York Water customers with water or wastewater arrearages are encouraged to apply for these grants if they are eligible. “Over 1,200 York Water customers and their families benefitted from the initial LIHWAP program in 2022 and secured over $660,000 to assist with paying their York Water Company water and sewer bills. York Water applauds Governor Shapiro and strongly encourages our customers who are eligible to apply for these funds. We recognize the economic pressures on our customers and offer every assistance so that our customers can take advantage of this brief program window,” JT Hand, President and CEO stated.

This program will run from July 10, 2023, through August 11, 2023, or until all funds are used, whichever comes first.
