The York Water Company Awarded 2024 National Rehabilitation Project of the Year Award from Dam Safety Officials
York, Pennsylvania, August 22, 2024 – JT Hand, President & CEO of The York Water Company (NASDAQ: YORW), announced today that the newly renovated Lake Williams Dam has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 National Rehabilitation Project of the Year Award by the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO).
Since 1992 the ASDSO National Rehabilitation Project of the Year Award has recognized teams who have developed and implemented unique designs that improve the field of dam safety by advancing state-of-the-art designs and exemplifying the high professional engineering standards that dam safety requires.
President Hand stated, “The York Water Company is immensely proud of the newly rehabilitated Lake Williams Dam. We knew from the beginning that the team we assembled to develop and create the Lake Williams Dam was award winning, and the recognition from the Association of State Dam Officials (ASDSO) confirms this for all. We are honored to join an elite group of dam owners and operators who hold such a prestigious award. This award will be officially accepted in September with pride on behalf of all York Water employees and the team members from Gannett Fleming and Kinsley Construction who were essential in the success of this project.”
For 208 years, The York Water Company has proactively considered and planned for redundancy in our water supply system and the Lake Williams Dam rehabilitation is the most recent example of continuing this intentional and vital mission. A key component to the rehabilitation was the introduction of the labyrinth spillway built with roller compacted concrete (RCC) on the bedrock and designed to handle a significantly higher flow of water than the original dam which will further ensure the safety of our community members downstream.
Safe, reliable drinking water is the lifeblood of our community, and the Lake Williams Dam is impounding water needed by a community of 210,000+ people, thousands of daily visitors, and industrial and commercial customers. Adding 60+ million gallons of additional storage capacity, the rehabilitated and resilient 1.14-billion-gallon reservoir and dam will help sustain the community for future generations.
The 2024 Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) National Rehabilitation Project of the Year Award will be presented on September 23, 2024 in Denver, Colorado.
